Comment: '40th birthday weekend in Manhattan!'' Wow! What can we say. .....
Just back home after a fantastic weekend staying in Manhattan room with my husband celebrating my 40th birthday. The room was fantastic and we could not of asked for more and with a nice touch a welcoming bottle had been put on ice for us when we arrived.

The staff were helpful and we did not envy them climbing the stairs with our champagne breakfast each morning!!

We ate both lunch and dinner in Pier Nine and the food was delicious with full compliments to the chef!

The sea views were breathtaking and we could have spent all day watching the world go by! In fact we put it off for as long as possible until we checked out.

We have already been looking at dates for our next visit!!

Huge thanks to Max and all the staff, we will be seeing you all again soon.

Comment: Literally can't fault the hotel, the (Manhattan) room was totally amazing!! Everything from the ceiling filling bath, to the fish tank coffee table and jukebox made us feel like we were in a million pound rock star pad! The staff were extremely polite and professional and the restaurant and decking area look beautiful and the food was great too!
Amazing, amazing, amazing!!!

An excellent place to stay at very good rates.

Comment: We tried the Zanzibar as it was something a bit different. We were hoping for an experience we wouldn't forget (in a positive way!) and it delivered on every level. The Antarctica room was fabulous - the view is straight out to the sea, there is a steam shower and a sauna in the room (the sauna is a bit temperamental but just get Max to show you how to coax it back on), the decor suits the room theme perfectly. The atmosphere at the hotel can't be faulted - all the staff couldn't be more helpful and are genuinely smiling all the time. Breakfast was probably the best we have ever had at a hotel (and we have stayed at quite a few 5 star hotels over the last few years). It is a credit to Max who turned the building from a seaside B&B into the experience it is now and to all the people he has working with him now. We will definitely be staying again :-)

Thank you to Jason and his team

Comment: I was lucky enough to get a late cancellation at this wonderful B&B. As it was a cancellation we didn't have a choice of rooms - however, I do think that made our life easier - how would one even know where to start in picking?! We stayed in Morocco, a smaller room, yet with a spacious feel as the room is set up as a beautifully decorated sitting room with a mezzanine above for sleeping. I can't fault the accommodation or the helpful and friendly staff at the hotel and would definitely recommend the Zanzibar. I would also highly recommend the restaurant - I was amazingly pleasantly surprised. The food was most excellent, absolutely London standard, with a good choice and some excellent wines - go for the smugglers wine!

Name: Mrs Sarah Cromwell

Room: Bali

Stay:   June 2014

Comment: After deciding we needed to get away from the stresses of London and a crazy house move. We picked the Zanzibar hotel & Hastings for a last minute mid week break after reading other reviews on TripAdvisor.

Fortunately we managed to snap up the last remaining room - Bali.

What a wonderful 24 hours we had. On arrival Max welcomed us wholeheartedly, helping us with sea front parking, our bags and a tour before showing us the room. He apologised for the room being small but we have stayed in smaller. Plus with velux roof windows, ambient lighting and a talking spa shower - we could not complain!!

What was the highlight of our stay though was our time in the restaurant for both dinner and our included breakfast. The cooking and quality of food is just divine. If you just visit for the restaurant I would not expect you to be disappointed.

We will certainly return and try out one of the bigger rooms and a new seasonal menu.

Thanks to everyone at the hotel for making our escape wonderful.

Comment: A wonderful stay in "Antartica" with its superb shower & amazing sea views.
The food in the Pier 9 Restaurant was really excellent both at dinner and breakfast the next morning. The fruit bowl with the best yoghurt I've ever tasted got the morning off to a great start. All the staff were very friendly and so willing to help make our stay special. So thank you very much!

Comment: We had a great time at Zanzibar. It was every bit as luxurious as we hoped it would be, especially the deep, Japanese-style bath. Great little touches - like the free welcome drink and the excellent breakfast - really made the difference, too.

Comment: Great little spot! Rooms well done - hospitality and food well done - and reasonable prices too - great atmosphere in restaurant and breakfast to compare with the best we have ever had (and we have travelled a lot!) super place for a chilled night away from the kids. DVD player in room too - added bonus

Room: Morocco

Comment: After Jason had welcomed us and showed us to the Morocco room we had booked for our 2 night stay, he then bought us complimentary drink and fresh tapenade, which were most welcome and eagerly consumed! The room is small (particularly for me as I weight 18 stone!), but beautifully and tastefully decorated, with a large drench shower (which was amazing!) with the bed on a Mezzanine level accessed via a spiral staircase.
The headroom in the bed area is low so you cannot stand, but this, along with careful placing of lighting and appropriate ornamentation did add to the ambience. One nice surprise was a TV in the bed area as well as downstairs, and another - real fresh milk in the mini bar & free mineral water. The mini bar prices were on the steep side being nearer to London than Hastings, but no one is forcing you as there is an off licence 2 doors down.
We had an issue though, what I hadn’t realised when booking is that, as a larger person, I would be unable to easily get up the stairwell.

Following a night on the sofa Jason upgraded us to Antarctica, with sea views and a large separate bathroom this was quite a spectacular suite! The bathroom comes equipped with a Sauna, Steam and shower enclosure, and while quite small was also a nice change. There are 2 tiny downsides. The bathroom did smell a tad damp, and the window which goes almost to floor level in the bathroom is not frosted that gave me quite a shock in the morning to see someone walking along the promenade looking directly at me in all my morning glory!

Breakfast ... As spectacular as the rooms, full English and no holding back on the portions either.

Comment: I had booked South America as a surprise for my wife's birthday. We we're met at the front door by the owner who was extremely friendly and welcoming. He showed us the bar and dining area then took our bags up to show us our room, and what an amazing room it was. Spacious, tastefully decorated and furnished with a huge bed and a stand alone bath to die for! It was easily big enough for two and we had the deepest hottest bath we have ever had. Lovely views over the sea and much to my wife's annoyance I spent a happy half hour looking at passing ships and the Sovereign Lighthouse with the room's telescope.
We didn't dine at the hotel during the evening as we already had plans but when we went out it was packed and it smelt divine. A v v comfortable nights sleep was followed by a delicious breakfast.
All the staff were very smiley and friendly. Looking forward to going back.

Comment: We couldn't have asked for a better venue to see in my husbands 30th. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. We had room service to our room from the Pier Nine restaurant which was just divine and just what the doctor ordered. My only comment would be the sound from the jukebox, I understand it can't be loud but I could hardly hear it. However, I am sure if I had asked the lovely Max to turn it up a notch I am sure he would have done. The bath was incredible and the bed was so comfortable too! Hastings itself has a certain charm to it however, we didn't really leave the hotel!! We played mini golf but was straight back to have a very long lunch downstairs. It really felt like we were on holiday! We will return there soon, especially as they are restoring the pier too!

Comment: Wow - what a gem! I normally would not choose Hastings as a place to visit but forget about that and visit this wonderful boutique hotel!! From the start we were warmly welcomed, complimentary drink, lots of info. The rooms are beautiful - we stayed in the Moroccan which was to die for - only criticism would be more space for using the complimentary tea/coffee area, larger sink but we are scraping the barrel. It is a real oasis and once inside and in the garden area you could be anywhere in the world !! The relaxed but stunningly designed restaurant was fab and the food top notch - nothing was too much trouble - This hotel should go on your bucket list !! Thank u :)

Comment: What can we say! The hotel was better then we could have ever dreamed of. I booked the hotel as a 50th birthday treat for my partner and from the moment we stepped into the hotel I knew we were in for a treat. The room was lovely and the view, wonderful to wake up to. Dinner was superb and the cocktails, another delight we decided to indulge in. Breakfast, the following morning certainly set us up for the day. Our only disappointment was that we were only staying for one night. Our stay in the Zanzibar will certainly be repeated and hopefully very soon!

Comment: This is wonderful small hotel, each room is unique and we chose Morocco, beautifully decorated and quirky. The ambiance and quality are truly lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful and very approachable. Food in the restaurant is of the highest quality and breakfast was a really good choice, the glass of champagne added the wow factor. The owner is passionate about his hotel and it shows! Would I come again - most definitely !!!

Comment: As someone who stays in hotels 3 nights a week it was really good to stay somewhere interesting. Lady who greeted me on arrival was fab and dinner very enjoyable. I stayed in the Morocco which is interesting but not really practical. Wet shaving impossible in tiny sink and stairs to bed need a bit of thinking about. That said room was warm & comfortable and really good fun. I think my overall take on hotel was very very pleasant, friendly and funky. I will most certainly be trying some of the other rooms during the year.

Comment: I was very pleased with my stay in the South America room, it was just as it looked in pictures. The staff were very welcoming and happy to talk about the local area. The dinner in the restaurant was lovely and so was the breakfast. Amazing view from the room, which was clean and well stocked. Would love to come back and try all the other rooms.

Comment: We were both very impressed with the hotel and Pier Nine restaurant which we will be eating in again in the not too distant future.
We were able to have a look at Manhattan and Antarctica and next time we visit will book Antarctica for its decor and superb outlook onto the seafront. We were VERY impressed!!

Comment: Pleasure bubble!! This was a joy from start to finish. A warm welcome. Great room. Friendly, efficient service Even sound advice on local places of interest and restaurants. Very relaxing. This site gives a very good idea of what to expect but the reality is even better

Comment: Fabulous!! I cannot recommend this hotel high enough!

We stayed in the Manhattan suite for a couple of nights. The whole experience was amazing, from start to finish.
The apartment is finished to a high standard and has a number of perks to enjoy such as a hot tub in front of the King-size soft bed! Another lovely touch is the Juke Box! And... you can enjoy watching gold fishes swim under your coffee cup on the coffee table!
The kitchen is amazing and the view from the windows is simply breath-taking.

The breakfast was delicious and was served on a tray in the room. You can choose from a variety of foods + you have a newspaper waiting for you under the door at 8 am! With it came a card indicating what the weather would be like on the day and suggestions where to go and places to see!

We also dined in the PierNine Restaurant. I have to say that the food was exceptionally good! I had scallops - the best I have ever had!

The hotel sits like a gem in a row of terraced houses on the sea-front. It is a real diamond in a place that (apart from the sea front) is not all that appealing. However, a short walk along the sea front would take you to the old town of Hastings, which is a place you just HAVE to go to if you are into antique items, books and good food!

All in all, a 5 star experience!
Thank you Zanzibar for an incredible mini break!

A special thank you to the staff - everybody has been very friendly!

We will come to stay in Zanzibar Hotel again, that is a given

Comment: Made a happy birthday!! I booked the Zanzibar on line after finding your website while I was looking for something different to take my wife to celebrate my birthday.
The website was so good that often the actual hotels do not match expectations. However, in this case the Zanzibar was amazing. We stayed in Africa where we could watch the tide come in from our window. The room was beautifully decorated and the experience of the spar bath is beyond words.
We had dinner in your restaurant and it was simply a treat to our senses. My wife keeps talking about 'that meal'.
My wife says you need to keep hold of your chef.
We had breakfast in our room and it was the best hotel breakfast experience we have had in a long while.
We could well be back to sample another escape in another country at your unique hotel.

Comment: Amazing! I surprised my husband with a stay at the Zanzibar hotel for his 40th birthday. We were immediately made welcome by Max who met us at the door. When he found out it was my husbands birthday he upgraded us to the South America room..... Wow!!!! We were blown away. We have never stayed anywhere like this before. It was complete luxury. Max and his team have thought of everything. You cant fault this gem of a hotel. The food was also superb and the touch of being able to have a romantic breakfast in your room was really special.
Thank you so much Zanzibar hotel, we will be back

Comment: The imagination that went into designing the Morocco room we stayed in is extraordinary. The service was top rate and the breakfast was like no other. Thank you for a wonderful two days. If only that bathroom was slightly larger, but it won't stop us coming again.

Comment: Our room at the Zanzibar was special indeed. It had every amenity including a huge soaking tub, a jukebox, an aquarium/coffee table, and a giant Buddha covered in mirror tiles. On the top floor it overlooked the beach along the English Channel.

The food was excellent and service generally quite good. The only glitches were a mix up in the dinner order one evening and somewhat sluggish service at one of the breakfasts. But these weren't enough to degrade our enjoyment. Highly recommended

This was just pure heaven. Food, service from staff, sea view was just sheer luxury and amazement. I will certainly find it difficult to accept anything lower than the Zanzibar in future  Will definitely stay here over and over.  I have been telling everyone I talk to about this place. Comment: Just returned from a wonderfully relaxing and very tranquil stay in the amazing Manhattan room for my husbands 40th birthday. We were looking for something with the Wow factor and the Zanzibar sure has that. The staff were very polite and helpful. The restaurant food was delicious and very well presented, the option to eat in your room was a really nice touch also. Sea views from the room were very calming and the resident seagull who we named Bill visited our window daily to be hand fed which was very entertaining.

Comment: It was everything it said it would be, advice in room information notebook to chill out was just right. Room was excellent as was food in restaurant and staff were lovely. As we drove along the seafront on arrival first impressions of the area were not good but once you scratch the surface we fell in love with Hastings. We will be returning to the Zanzibar and hope to stay in Africa.

We were thoroughly spoilt with the choice of breakfast which was delicious, unfortunately we didn't have time to have lunch/dinner in the hotel as we were often out all day but from what we could see on the menu it looked great. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for that something extra special and we will definitely be re-booking for next year.

Comment: We travelled here for a treat for my wife's birthday and were not disappointed. We stayed in Antarctica - a beautifully relaxing room on the second floor with spectacular views. Sipping champagne on the chaise longue with the windows open to the sound of the sea was just perfect. The welcome was warm with our bags taken to our room while I parked the car and welcome drinks with nibbles provided shortly afterwards. We ate at Pier Nine which was wonderful and had a lovely post-dinner drink in the small bar. Champagne breakfast (including a vegetarian full English!) was served in our room the next day and was perfectly prepared. All in all, too short a stay at this hidden gem - we'll be back .

Comment: Lasting memories are forged by truly remarkable experience and we will remember our stay at Zanzibar, fondly, for life. 10 years ago I married my wonderful husband and we shared a fish and chip supper in a borrowed camper van in a carpark for our honeymoon. To celebrate our 10th anniversary (and our 1st night away together without our children!) I wanted to surprise him with something very special. I could not have chosen better. Unlike the weather, the welcome was warm and friendly and our room was gorgeous. The grey sky and murky sea was framed beautifully by the clean white lines of the decor. Stunning. Once we had checked in we felt no need or desire to leave the hotel until checkout the following morning. It was a real treat to be able to truly relax, kick back and just be. Antarctica is a haven, a sanctuary, a magical space where the only thing to consider is whether to sauna or to steam and when to go downstairs for dinner! The restaurant is lovely, the staff attentive, efficient and friendly and the food served in Pier Nine took the whole experience up to another level. I had expected it to be good but it was sublime. We both really like food, good food, but this was not just good food, it was amazing. A sensory delight, exquisitely crafted, beautifully presented, perfectly balanced - awesome. In fact, the whole place exudes an effortlessness that belies the amount of thought and work that must surely go on behind the scenes and a confidence that comes from knowing it is appreciated. Thank you, all - very much.

Comment: Booked a surprise night away for Fiancees birthday and chose the Zanzibar hotel for its individual rooms. From the minute we walked in we felt special, champagne welcome drinks and a warm and friendly welcome from all the staff. We stayed in the India room which was gorgeously presented. Although being at the top of the building and there being no lifts was quite a treck. But after the climb nothing felt better then a long soak in the jacuzzi spa bath. With beautiful lighting in both the bedroom and bathroom it was the perfect way to relax. When it came to dinner reservations we were told there was no need to book, however, of they were filling up they would ring our room just incase we did want to eat in the restaurant, in our room (which was at no extra cost, no tray charge here) or if we were eating elsewhere. Although I would definitely recommend their restaurant. With individual genuine service and food which blows your taste buds into next week, the restaurant offers everything that makes a exclusive restaurant for a much more reasonable price. Both the mains and desserts were incredible. With a fully stocked dvd library to relax the night away and very comfy bed to sleep in we both woke up fresh the next day and went down to a gorgeous breakfast, complete with champagne at no extra cost. A gorgeous breakfast menu that was as tasty as our evening meal. Overall an outstanding gem of a hotel that goes above and beyond thoughts that charge 2 or 3 times more. Definitely will be going back to try one of the different room and experience perfection once again. Well done Zanzibar Hotel. Top marks.

The hotel was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. It almost made it a pleasure to stay in the hotel room the whole weekend and not brave the cold outside. However, the Old Town is fantastic with so much to reward any exploration.
All in all a great weekend. Thank you for making it so special!

Comment: We stayed in South America which was a fabulous room overlooking the sea. Pier Nine (the hotel's restaurant) was superb, in fact so good, that we asked to see the chef to compliment him on the standard of the food.

In the morning, we relaxed in bed reading the papers (delivered to the room and complimentary) before eating our breakfast in our bedroom - again a delicious meal.

My only regret is that we only stayed one night

Comment: We wanted to escape to the sea for a few days, so chose Hastings... Battle, seaside etc etc. Whilst Hastings leaves an awful lot to the imagination, we were completely bowled over by the Zanzibar. From the moment we walked through the door, we were impressed. We stayed in the Morocco room. It was lovely. The mezzanine bed was a treat, the warmth of the decor and the wonderful aromas all added to the experience. All the hotel staff were helpful and welcoming. Lovely touches include the honesty bar, the willingness to provide cutlery and plates for takeaway meals and the free bottled water... A minor detail but it all adds up. Another great touch is that you can have breakfast in your room for free. Why don't other hotels do this?! All round it was a lovely couple of days. Still not sure about Hastings but the Zanzibar is definitely a place where you can go if you want to hide away from the out side world! Thank you to Max and his wonderful team.

Comment: Brilliant weekend break, will be stayingstaying at this hotel again.  We stayed in India room and it was superb. The bed was very comfortable and Massimo, the jacuzzi bath was a real treat. We loved the fact that you could have your breakfast bought to your room so no rushing around in the morning to get ready.

The service in the restaurant was fantastic and all staff very friendly.

Comment: We had a wonderful time staying at Hotel Zanzibar as a post Christmas treat. We stayed in the South America room, which benefitted from lovely sea views as well as an exceptionally comfortable bed and decadent double bath.

The food at the hotel was second to none, with a delicious meal in the Pier Nine restaurant on our first evening a particular highlight. The breakfast was a veritable feast, with a bountiful array of options.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the Zanzibar International hotel for a fantastic time - it's definitely the best place we've ever stayed.

Comment: We stayed in the Morocco room, which was really nice. It has such a unique style and is warm and comforting. We were looked after so well by all the staff, from the minute we walked in the door to when we left. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was amazing. The food was top class and we were offered a complimentary drink to have either on arrival or with our dinner. We can not fault our stay at all, a truly lovely hotel with top class treatment. :-) I can feel an anniversary stay coming on (I hope) :-)

From the moment we booked, many months in advance the service given from everyone we spoke to was second to none.

On arrival the room was everything we hoped it to be.  Both nights were fantastic and the food was incredible.  We fully intend to spend our first anniversary back at the Zanzibar.

The staff were lovely, the room very relaxing if a little to warm (open window and sea air fixed that).
The breakfast in bed followed by a soak in the jacuzzi topped a very pleasant stay, superb and different.

Comment:Having seen this hotel in numerous magazines I finally got the chance to stay in a very sunny couple of days in September. From the moment we approached the hotel and we could see how close we were to the sea front we knew this was somewhere special!
The service from the moment we walked in was first class, the lady even came out to where our car was parked and took our luggage to our room whilst we find somewhere suitable to park.
We stayed in the Africa room and the moment we walked in we were taken aback the room was even more lovely in the flesh and the sea view room was amazing especially viewing it from sitting on the bed!
The requested ice bucket was there ready and waiting too which was great.
The attention to detail like the Elemis bath range, robes, snacks and so on made us feel like we were at home.
The choice of DVD/s to watch was an added bonus after a long day walking round Hastings.
The best thing was the choice of having breakfast in our room along with a choice of papers.
A lovely finishing touch was the owner greeting us in the morning.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and loved it so much I have already booked for May next year for our Anniversary. Cannot wait lets hope the weather is as glorious as it was in September!
Thank you for a wonder stay where we left truly relaxed!

Comment: We chose Antarctica and were not disappointed!!
The room was fantastic with white floors, walls, a huge bay window overlooking the sea, the sauna and steam shower were a little on the small side for two but great fun - especially the shower (lights, music, jets etc). We had breakfast on the chaise long with the window open and the sun streaming in - even in late October!

The food was superb. Dinner in the restaurant was fantastic and well worth going to on it own merits, even if you are not staying in the hotel - great decorations, great ambiance, very attentive service, and extremely well cooked food.

The breakfast menu is amazing - we had it delivered to the room and it was perfect. Rather than most hotels which just bring hot and cold all together, so by the time you've had your fruits/cereal, the hot has gone cold - here, they bring the starters and then come 10 minutes later with the hot mains. Very thoughtful, beautifully presented and very hearty!

We have enjoyed a great stay and definitely recommend this hotel. Thank you!

I've read reviews in glossy magazines so as my anniversary approached i booked a surprise visit for my other half. Despite there being several weeks until our anniversary the hotel only had one room left, so the difficult decision on which one too pick was not an option. South America it was! from start to finish the whole experience was amazing from the huge inviting bed, beautiful smelling toiletries and fluffy gowns. The breakfast was divine and every little detail thought off, we cant wait for the next special occasion so we can return , just amazing !!

Comment: 'From the moment we arrived we were made to feel special and very welcome. We were greeted with a welcome drink which was a lovely touch and observed the modern and chic decor of the restaurant and garden area whilst we sipped on bubbles and began to relax - toasting to our excellent choice in hotel taste ;-)
We stayed in the Moroccan themed room, and we were so impressed by the style and uniqueness of the room, we were so excited to stay in it! There was lots of lovely personal touches such as robes, slippers, chocolates and a really reasonable priced mini bar. The best part had to be the champagne breakfast in bed each morning... delicious! and a varied menu cooked to order!
The first evening we ate in the hotel restaurant, we were a little disappointed to now get a sea view window - but what do you expect booking a table a few hours beforehand! - certainly a tip for guests wanting to dine here - book in advance... Well just wow... absolutely outstanding food... the atmosphere was fantastic and the piano player topped our overall experience off perfectly. The whole restaurant and bar was buzzing. We both agreed that this was an 11/10 meal overall and we even contemplated dining here on night 2!
Overall we had a a perfect stay at Zanzibar, so much so that we even got engaged here this weekend! :-) it was our first trip to Hastings and we were so impressed with the hotel chic-ness, outstanding food, friendly personable staff and very reasonable prices - everything that tops our requirements for a special weekend treat away. We will certainly be back to stay again! Thank you for making our weekend so special .

Comment: We stayed at The Zanzibar for one night to celebrate a \"special\" birthday for my wife. The staff are simply superb from the moment you enter the front door until you leave, the service is absolutely first class.
We stayed in the Manhattan room which is enormous, being the entire top floor of the hotel, be warned there are plenty of stairs to get there.
The room is stunning as are the sea views from the windows. There are a few little faults in the room, like a crack in the glass top of a bedside table, little wear and tear things I know, but it detracts slightly from the "luxury" idea.
That aside, the novelty of the jukebox, aquarium table and bedroom mood lighting all add to the Zanzibar experience which was overall superb.
We ate at the in house Pier Nine Restaurant, the food and service were excellent and well worth trying if you stay.
Breakfast was an absolute feast, delivered to our room complete with bucks fizz, fruit, yoghurt, cereal, toast, full english or alternative and coffee, a triumph in itself it was delivered exactly on the time requested in two servings so the hot items were hot.
Keep up the great work, take care of the little details, this is a brilliant hotel with superb staff.

- The Hotel is in a wonderful sea front location
- The staff are warm, welcoming and extremely helpful
- The Room was exceptional. Really comfortable, and with a spa/ jacuzzi bath to ease away any aches you have from all the walking you will do!
- Last and certainly not least, the Food. Simply, WOW! We had an evening meal, which was truly sublime, cooked to perfection and a very good portion too!!!

All in all, would highly recommend this hotel to anyone !

The highlights include the huge bath, the amazing sea views, the jukebox, the excellent level of service and heaps of thoughtful extras.

It is such a romantic hideaway and we loved every minute.

The food was also excellent and we loved being able to have a fabulous meal without wandering around looking for a restaurant. Brilliant! It was wonderful to finish our meal and take a late night stroll on the beach. Wow wow wow!

Comment: Just gotten back form our little trip away to Hastings and our stay at The Zanzibar. What a hotel! The building is right on the sea front, so rooms with a "sea view" are not kidding!! Our room  was the Japan, which overlooked the courtyard "zen" garden, which guests and patrons of Pier Nine restaurant can use, (so if you like to go to bed early can I suggest a front facing room so as to not hear the chatter with the window open).

Inside our room all the decor was excellent, and the bed was huge and very comfortable. Sitting in the monster Jacuzzi bath watching telly was a first for me, but very relaxing! On one evening we decided to have an early night, and the choice of DVD from the library downstairs was very varied and complimentary.  Lastly, the staff. The level of service that you receive from them is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble and they will go out of their way to accommodate you, and being a small, (sub 10), room hotel you get more of a personal approach than if you stay at a larger place.

To finalise, did I enjoy my stay at Zanzibar? A resounding "Yes"!! Would I stay again? "Yes"!!! Lastly, would I recommend the hotel to friends/family? Most definitely.

Comment: We just wanted to thank you and your staff for the fabulous couple of days that we spent at the Zanzibar last Thursday / Friday. We loved the design and ambience, the rooms, the breakfasts and the restaurant, not to mention the welcome and the informal, but efficient service at all times. We also enjoyed Hastings and your recommendations for places to go and restaurants to eat in. Not that they surpassed you own Pier Nine. Only a few days before on the 3rd April we had visited Ristorante Semplice in London, a Michelin-starred establishment, for a family dinner. Piernine not only exceeded our expectations, but delivered better presented and more imaginative food than its Italian rival. In summary Zanzibar is all that one could want from a boutique hotel by the sea and as such sets the standard for quality and value that all others should aspire to. Next time we want a short break in this country we won’t be thinking any further than the Sussex coast and your wonderful hotel .

Comment: Our second stay at this hotel was just as enjoyable as the first. Great rooms, relaxed, friendly staff, and well worth the cost. They also listen to their guests - I was disappointed on my first visit that they didn't have any higher quality cognacs (my only complaint!) - this time that had a bottle of Hennessy Paradis on hand.

Comment:We stayed in Manhattan for 1 night.  I was a bit unsure whether it would be as good as the reviews and pictures said but it definitely was.  The view was superb and must be lovely in summer, there were some nice touches, the tray of sweets, popcorn, drinks etc. As we only stayed one night we didn't get much chance to make use of all the facilities such as the jukebox but they were great.    The breakfast was one of the best I have experienced if not the best and so much food we didn't eat the rest of the day!   The Pier Nine restaurant looked amazing but the menu has a lot of fish and we are not fish eaters so we headed for the Indian down the road Bay Spice where we had a lovely meal. Its definitely worth a visit. Thank you for a wonderful break and we hope to return again soon.

Comment: What a find! We felt like this hotel was perfect for our mini break/ anniversary. The room was beautiful and spacious and the view was magnificent- even thru the rain! Food served to our room for lunch was excellent, as was the breakfast. We felt thoroughly relaxed after using the \'spa\' style facilities in Antarctica and watching great films from the library. Hastings old town is also perfect for a couple of hours break from the delights of the room! Worth every penny. We will be returning..... .

Comment: Book yourself in, reserve a table in the hotel's restaurant you won't find a better one locally and chill out in your themed room. Take breakfast in your room, it's served on two visits so the food doesn't get cold between courses. If you must leave the hotel, visit nearby Rye.

Comment: Our weekend at Zanzibar was perfect; from the friendliness of staff on arrival, the delicious food in Pier Nine, the champagne breakfasts, the beautiful Japan theme room and of course that deep-soak spa bath all with a backdrop of February snowfall outside the window (Thanks for arranging that by the way!) our only dilemma is what room to stay in next time.

Comment: This is the second time my partner and I have stayed at the Zanzibar international and we are likely to go again. Each room gives you a different experience and view. The staff are welcoming and helpful to the nth degree, your every need is catered for and the rooms are just as described on the website (& sometimes more!). They also have a restaurant which is fully booked most nights, not just by guests, giving you the option of enjoying your stay to the fullest. I have recommend this hotel to friends for any occasion, as the main outcome is relaxation and a sense of being pampered.

Comment: My wife works shifts and had to work the day after her birthday so we wanted to get away for just one night and spend the day (15 February) somewhere nice. We eventually managed to book the one night (14 February) at 'Zanzibar'. We didn't want to eat in the hotel two nights on the trot and with a late booking we were never going to get the Pier Nine for Valentines Day anyway. We tried, and very much enjoyed, one of the local recommendations. Back to ‘Zanzibar’. It was heaving. Piano playing the ladies with their roses and the staff running around keeping customers happy. Incredibly busy but an incredible crew. Slept very well in a comfortable room and down for our breakfast in the morning. WOW! Service was excellent, food even better! We had booked a table for the evening with friends and again the food was to die for and the service exemplary. For B&B this hotel is better than excellent and the value for money ratio is off the scale. We rather pushed the boat out for the birthday dinner which naturally pushed the cost up a bit too. An extraordinary place, excellent value and definitely a place we will return to time and again - we want to try the other rooms and the garden too.

We stayed in Morocco which was absolutely stunning. The room wasn't too over crowed with things and the decor was spot on.

We felt at home the whole time and were welcomed by staff as soon as we got there, verbally and with some complimentary Champagne!
The breakfast was superb and nothing was missing or over/under cooked... The dining room overlooks the sea and the whole room just makes you relax.

Exceptional value for money, I can't think of one thing that was negative and will definitely be going back

Comment: This is a fantastic boutique hotel on the prom, within easy walking distance of the old town and attractions, make an effort to speak to the elderly guide in the RNLI boathouse, full of wonderful tales. The breakfasts were delicious and the coconut yoghurt served with the fruit bowl, we will try at home. The penthouse - Manhattan suite, has everything you can wish for, an aquarium coffee table meant we spent ages gazing at the fish and the juke box was a treat - we want one, large range dvd\'s and books available to borrow! Free newspaper delivered to the door along with suggestion of where to go and a local weather forecast. Fantastic sea views, cleanliness and lovely staff make for a wonderful stay - would thoroughly recommend the Zanzibar to anyone. Huge thank you for making my birthday memorable. Thanks Pete & Gail.

Even though it was late in the year we were lucky enough to see the sun streaming in the window in the morning. We ate in the first night, shame we were the only guests staying that did that evening. The food was amazing, really fresh and tasted wonderful. We had breakfast in the room delivered when we requested by the nicest waiters, so polite. The old town is well worth a look around. Everyone was so helpful nothing was too much trouble. We would love to go back and try a different room.

Comment: We stayed in South America, which is the main front room on the first floor looking straight at the seafront. The superking bed was amazingly comfortable with great pillows and the softest cotton sheets and duvet. The bath was wonderful and even though there isn't a shower, the handheld attachment allowed for a nice spritz in the bath. The hotel has lots of thoughtful touches, such as reasonably priced mini-bar drinks and snacks, free DVDs (all the greats) and welcome drinks. The food is fantastic and I would recommend NOT eating anywhere else. We ate out on the second night at Webbe\'s seafood restaurant and deeply regretted it. The menu caters really well for vegetarians and breakfast is delicious with locally sourced ingredients and bakery bread. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the atmosphere very relaxed!

Comment: Quite simply the best hotel we have ever stayed in. A very friendly welcome from the whole team including a glass of bubbly- just what the doctor ordered after a Friday night on the M25!

We were staying in the South America room, which turned out to be every bit as glamorous as the photos show. Massive bed, double jacuzzi bath, and all incredibly clean and tidy. Fantastic nights sleep and an even better breakfast served in our room at a time suitable to us. Brilliant!

I had a few reservations about the location before we came due to some other reviews on the internet, but I really can't see what they did?! Perfect seafront location with good parking. The town centre is only 10 minutes away with a good few restaurants to try. We didn't have time to try the new restaurant in the hotel but it looked lovely.

All in all a fantastic romantic trip away, completely unforgettable.

Comment: Just returned from a weekend at the Zanzibar in Hastings, and had a fantastic time. We were in the Africa room, and the views were simply amazing, across the sea. The staff were brilliant throughout our stay, and the newly opened restaurant was absolutely excellent. The best meal we've both had in ages, and again, a fantastic view from the dining room!

Comment: 'My partner and I stayed at the Zanzibar in the Manhattan suite for two nights at the end of June this year (2011). We had a fabulous time. The warm welcome from the staff was great. The information in the room and the facilities were fantastic. Comfortable big bed, double bath in the bedroom and a double shower in the bathroom. Juke box, coffee table fish tank, two tvs. Too much to do and not enough time. All of this and lovely views out to sea as well. And if you manage to leave your room, Hastings old town is well worth a visit. Thanks again for a great stay.

Comment: We stayed in the Manhattan room for my husbands 40th, it was fantastic from start to finish.
The staff were very welcoming, the bed was so comfortable and breakfast was delightful.
The only thing that was disappointing was the bath was described as a hot tub bath, so i was expecting bubbles, where in fact it was just a deep seated bath.
We are planning another stay later in the year.

Had the best curry from the Taj Mahal which is a few minutes away and a great lunch in the Dragon Bar in the Old Town. Overall Hastings itself wasn't our cup of tea but the hotel more than made up for that and is a great little haven which has been lovingly created. The welcome you get is fantastic. Comment: Me and my partner only stayed one night in the Japan room but we loved it. As soon as we entered the hotel and waited in the garden, we were taken by the look and charm of the hotel. We were shown to our room and checked in very easily. Max was very friendly as was the other staff. The room was amazing, I loved the furniture and theme of the room, the spa bath was especially our favorite thing. The hotel has the essentials you need such as the bar down stairs which you help yourself too and add to your bill on checkout. i loved the garden lit up at night, the whole hotel has been very well put together and a lot of thought and effort has gone to making it and unforgettable stay. The breakfast served to us in the morning before leaving was tasty and good quality, it was a treat to be able to have it in the garden. Absolutely fabulous hotel and next time we visit we will stay in the Manhattan room! Many thanks to Max and his team, you made mine and my partners 4 years anniversary perfect.

The quality of the food, service, decor and staff makes you feel like you are somewhere special, which you are. For what you are paying the value is amazing. Hastings new town is not great however Hastings old town is a smaller version of the Brighton lanes making it perfect for a quiet stroll, great little restaurants and hopefully in the sun. Our room was rather small but contained all we needed we chose to take breakfast in the dining room which overlooked the sea, most guests chose to eat outside in the rear terraced garden. The hotel has been furnished with beautiful taste, it is quiet and very peaceful, but only a 10min walk to Hastings town. The service was exceptional making our stay really special. Comment: I just wished to take some time out and thank you for a most enjoyable stay in your hotel. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted in person, and given a personal tour of the hotel, along with an explanation of all facilities. The member of staff was polite, friendly, open and welcoming. The room....well what can I say! Wow! It was beautifully designed, comfortable and very personal. The in-room facilites were exceptional, and no expense spared. The breakfasts were amazing, with a fantastic range....so much so, I didn't and probably couldn't sample all of the options available. The atmosphere itself was extremely friendly, laid back and relaxed. In short, this has been one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, and for what you get, a bargain in my opinion. Comment:

After a terrible journey around the M25 where the world and his dog appeared to be travelling in the same direction as us, we arrived at the Zanzibar to a lovely warm welcome by Robyn who forced (only joking!) a cold glass of bubbly down us while we caught some rays in their little back garden.

Eager to see our room, Moonlit Manhattan, we took the journey up the 78 (yes, I repeat 78) stairs to our suite at the top of the hotel. After taking on board more oxygen(!) "WOW" were the only words uttered by my husband and I for a few moments as we took in the wonderful room. I was especially excited about having our own juke-box and promptly ignored my husband for a few hours while I spun a few old time classics! Having the extra space with our own kitchen and living room was really nice and the double aspect views meant that it was lovely, bright and airy. The bath was...let's say, interesting. A kind of hot-tub for two but indoors which fills up from the ceiling. A nice unique way of not having to take up too much space I guess. Not sure about the glass dining table which doubled up as a fish tank. I think we frightened the lives out of the fish everytime we put our glass down!

As the hotel has no restaurant, we had been recommended to eat at the local fish restaurant called Pomegranate. It's about a 25/30 min walk along the sea-front into the old bit of town. Unfortunately for the restaurant it's opposite a rather kicking pub called 'Revolver' and as it was nice night, everyone was outside drinking and generally having a bit of a riot. Not quite the ambience I had imagined however once inside, the restaurant was full to bursting and we quickly ignored the pub crowds. Joanna was a lovely front of house person; charming and knowledgable. However, her husband, Jamie, needs a few more tips on how to be nice to clients!! Walking back to the hotel in the dark proved a different experience...

Right, let's talk beds! This bed was amazingly comfy. I normally have to have my own pillow where-ever I go but this time my trusty old friend never made it out of the suit-case! Super King means a decent nights sleep for both - another plus of course. Breakfast was divine! I think you can really rate a hotel on its standard of full English and Zanzibar delivered and then some. Quality & quanity were perfect. It's included in the room price so they could be a tendency to scrimp but they didn't and I think this speaks volumes. All in all, I would have to say that if you put the surroundings aside, then this hotel is exactly what most couples look for in a bolt-hole. Service, attention to detail, uniqueness, comfort and quality. Well done Max and well done Robyn - thank you for your hospitality and thanks for a great stay.

PS. No worries about car parking. They provide a free, secure space in a local underground place nearby.
